The Provincial Science and Technology Center in La Union (PSTC-LU) conducted a two-day seminar on Productivity Improvement Tools & Techniques to MSMEs on September 13-14, 2016 at the Liga ng mga Barangay Hall, City of San Fernando, La Union. The seminar-workshop is intended for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to boost their productivity. A total of 15 participants from 11 participating MSMEs attended the said seminar.
Provincial S&T Director (PSTD) Racquel M. Espiritu welcomed the participants and said that the training will help the participants to
Ms. Virginia Imelda Salvador, Labor and Employment Officer III, was the first resource speaker for the first day of training. Ms. Salvador started her discussion by showing the logo of the My Green Enterprise or the Green ME program and asked the participants what they observed in the picture. She explained that the logo represents the people and the environment. She also played a video to easily understand the issue of climate change and its effect.
In addition, Ms. Salvador discussed the Green ME Program has three modules namely: GP concepts and benefits, GP Values, and GP techniques which includes waste prevention, resource conservation and pollution control. She explained that GP aims to create a more comfortable and productive workplace maintaining a clean, safe and orderly surroundings and implementing waste management and other green activities. She also discussed the ISTIV program. The ISTIV which stands for Industrious, Systematic, Time-Conscious, Innovative, strong Value for work are the attributes of a productive worker.
Mr. Ben A. Donglayan, Administrative Assistant I, discussed the 5S as one of the module on Green Me Program. 5S is a Japanese philosophy focused on planning, organizing and managing the shared workplace. It is a method to create a safer, cleaner and better-organized workplace.
Atty. Romina Boado-Cabrillos, Attorney IV, discussed the topic on human resource management. Atty. Cabrillos emphasized the importance of having a company vision-mission statement and a company policy for recruiting and hiring employees in order to minimize labor problems.
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is the topic discussed by Mr. Decth1180 P. Libunan, Science Research Specialist II of the DOST-1. He started his discussion by giving tricky arithmetic questionnaire to the participants. He stated that by merely not following instruction, anyone’s life can be at stake. He emphasized the Safety First aspect of a workplace.
On the second day of the seminar, Engr. Marilou A. Basilio, Instructor of Saint Louis College, discussed the topic on Motion and Time Study. She first discuss productivity and the persons behind time and motion study. Ms. Betsy Casuga and Ms. Jaine Elaiza Manangan, students of Engr. Basilio demonstrate the pin-board activity in order for the participants to easily understand the relation of time and motion. The participants also try the card drawing activity and the bolt and nut activity. The afternoon session was the workshop on computing standard time on lumpia making.
PSTD Espiritu thanked the participants as she awarded their certificates of participation.
