DENR MOA Signing

In a move to strengthen the advocacy on rehabilitation, preservation and protection of Agno River Basin (ARB) in Pangasinan, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 1 and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 1 signed agreements on March 29, 2016.

The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) will seal the assistance of DOST in providing technical assistance in the planning and implementation of the river basin research studies, development and extension programs, Planning Officer IV Jimmy M. Santos of DENR1 PMD said.

The agency is also expected to participate as member of the Climate Change and Adaptation/Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committee of Lower ARB Cluster and likewise, provide technical assistance in the aspect of disaster risk prevention and mitigation.

On the other hand, the DENR will capacitate the stakeholders, local government units in the implementation of sustainable environmental natural resources management interventions within ARB; implement and promote climate change adaptation and mitigation measures and lead in the advocacy on ARB related laws, rules and regulations thru effective and efficient information, education and communication materials.

During the MOC signing, DOST 1 Regional Director Armando Q. Ganal emphasized that the agency can tap the state universities and college in the conduct of collaborative research and development or extension activities.

The agreements were signed by DOST Director Ganal and parties of the identified firms at the office of the regional director here.

Santos moreover, said the DENR will also have partnership agreement with other agencies to include National Economic Development Authority; Department of Public Works and Highways; National Commission on Indigenous People; Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources; Office of the Civil Defense; Environmental Management Bureau; National Irrigations Administration; Mines and Geosciences Bureau in regions and Provincial Government of Region 1, 3 and and Cordillera Administrative Region.
