Aiming to improve the marketability, quality, and aesthetic value of products manufactured in Ilocos, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 1 called on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to avail of the labeling and packaging assistance offered by the agency.
Engr. Sulamita Flores, Science Research Specialist I said during the “Kapihan sa Ilocos” radio program at the Philippine Information Agency on April 27, 2016, interested MSMEs could directly visit their office for labeling or packaging assistance .
"For walk-in clients, the DOST designs a label or packaging structure for free, however, the MSME needs also to have a Memorandum of Agreement with us, and if they will not abide by the terms and conditions, they have to refund to DOST 1 the cost of the label design,” she added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Michael John C. Maquling, Process Owner of Packaging and Labeling Assistance of DOST 1 said, the printing or execution of the label /packaging design will be carried out by a certain client noting, that MSMEs under the DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) will be given a comprehensive package of technology solutions to transform local products into globally-competitive goods.
According to Mr. Maquiling, the program is aimed to make the products more competent, marketable and attractive through the provision of packaging services from package development and training as well as laboratory testing, and consultancy services, among others, since the Ilocos region produces a wide array of products.
“Other than labeling and packaging design services, DOST also provides different trainings to interested MSMEs.
"Just request for assistance at the DOST," Maquling concluded.
