In support to the needs of the teachers under the Human Resource Development, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-1) through its Provincial Science and Technology Center- La Union (PSTC-LU), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Santol, La Union (LGU), and Don Mariano Memorial State University (DMMMSU), provided seminar-workshops on basic computer troubleshooting, utilization of MS Office, and preparation of scholarly effective modules in Science and Mathematics for the teachers in Santol, La Union on August 16-18, 2021.

The first seminar was conducted on August 16, 2021, where the teachers delved into the basic troubleshooting of computers. Mr. Stephan Kupsch of DMMMSU taught the participants to familiarize themselves on the functions of the hardware and software component of a computer.

The next day, the teachers were trained to utilize MS Office Software and Google drive in the pursuit of equipping them with improved Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. Ms. Shalimar L. Navalta discussed how to operate MS PowerPoint; Mr. Herve E. Orpilla tackled the basic and advance functions of MS Word; Mr. Jessie B. Vallecera showed how the fields and formulas of MS Excel work together; and Mr. Excel V. Cabrera demonstrated how to utilize Google drive.

Finally, August 18, 2021, a seminar - workshop on how to prepare a scholarly effective module in Science and Mathematics on which the teachers were given the chance to integrate what they have learned from day one by producing their own modules based on the framework that was provided. Mr. Lester E. Orpilla, gave pointers on how to make a module for science which more relatable to the students. Dr. Rowena Carreon conducted a training on effective module writing in Mathematics (Elementary Level) and Dr. Nora A. Oredina, Dean of College of Education, discussed the Effective Module Writing in Mathematics (Highschool Level). Ms. Karen Ballada, a facilitator from DMMMSU, provided remarks and pointers in between presentations to give motivation and encouragement to the teachers.

The 3-day training and workshop delighted the teachers for it came as a necessity, “Yung mga lessons appropriate talaga …kahit teachers kami, meron pa din po yung mga kailangan namin, kahit simple, kasi hindi naman po kami nakakalabas dahil walang face to face,” Ms. Nancy Abalos, Master Teacher I, stated. Mr. Jonathan M. Viernes, La Union Provincial Director, led the awarding of the certificates, together with Ms. Princess P. Abuan, Project Assistant II, and Engr. Ronald Toyoan, Municipal Engineer.
