DOST-PTRI has committed to establishing BTFIH under PCAARRD funded Project, β€œField Verification of the Bamboo Textile Material Production and Treatment Technology.” It envisions to verify the technology in the province of La Union and utilize bamboo textile material available therein. The project will subsequently validate the performance of the bamboo textile fiber extraction machine developed by DOST-PTRI while producing the bamboo textile fibers for various textile applications. The people’s organization of Timpuyog Dagiti Mannalon Ti Casilagan Inc. (TIMPUYOG) is the identified partner for establishing community-based verification of bamboo fiber extraction technology as part of the second-year implementation of the project.

The Health, Education, Environment, and Discipleship or HEED Foundation, which is a partner of DOST-PTRI as well, helped organize the locals by creating their own people’s organization, hence the TIMPUYOG, whose primary goals are to protect the environment, seek government assistance, and create a sustainable livelihood for the locals.

Governor Ortega-David proudly expressed her joy and gratitude for the momentous accomplishment of Nagulian, La Union as they were the first in the country to launch the BTFIH. She pledged the support of the Provincial Government of La Union in the endeavors of the project and the groups involved.

OIC LeaΓ±o commended the people, groups, agencies and LGU who worked together to make the event a success. He quoted, "Everything starts in region 1."

The BTFIH inauguration is in line with the DOST-PTRI's #2023PTFMonth celebration.
