Itinakda na ng Kagawaran ng Agham at Teknolohiya (DOST) dito sa rehiyon uno ang kanilang paggunita sa selebrasyon ng Linggo ng Siyensya at Teknolohiya o National Science and Technology Week sa ika-25 ng Hulyo kung saan tampok ang iba’t-ibang produkto, proyekto at makabagong kaalaman sa agham at teknolohiya.
Ang nasabing selebrasyon na magsisimula ngayong Hulyo 25 hanggang Hulyo 29 ay taong-taong isinasagawa ng ahensiya bilang isang paraan ng pabibigay kahalagahan ng agham at teknolohiya sa pag-unlad ng bansa.
Kabilang sa mga aktibidades na nakalinya sa limang linggong selebrasyon ay ang eksibisyon ng mga imbensiyon at makabagong produkto ng mga State Universities and Colleges na kinabibilangan ng Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Pangasinan State University, North Luzon Polytechnic State College, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College at Mariano Marcos State University.
Inaasahang makikilahok din ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Dagupan City sa Pangasinan, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs), Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Philippine Science High School at iba pa.
Mula sa tema ngayong taon na “Juan Science, One Nation”, muling inaanyayahan ng DOST ang lahat na makisali sa naturang selebrasyon.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Ilocos region will be holding the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration on July 25-29, 2016 at the CSI the City Mall, San Fernando City, La Union with the theme “Juan Science, One Nation.”
In this year’s NSTW celebration, DOST 1 will be highlighting its programs and projects such as the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology Program, High Impact Technology Solutions, Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory, Technical Assistance and Consultancy Services, S&T Scholarship Program, and Packaging and Labeling Services.
The technology exhibit for the five-day event will be participated by the State Universities and Colleges in the Ilocos region to include Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Pangasinan State University, North Luzon Philippine State College, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College and Mariano Marcos State University.
Also, the local government unit of Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Philippine Atmospheric and Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration will take part in the said celebration.
The NSTW will showcase appropriate technologies, S&T Bazaar, Quiz Bee, S&T Fora and other exciting events in different venues to provide the public updates about the S&T community.
Admission to the NSTW is free of charge.
The NSTW and its corresponding events is in response to Proclamation No. 169, series of 1993 declaring the third week of July as the NSTW to highlight the significant contributions of S&T to national development. It has become a platform for heralding S&T advocacy in the country.
Several employees of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 1 recently participated in the seminar dubbed “Life in Christ Seminar” (LCS) facilitated by the Live Christ, Share Christ Movement at DOST 1 AVR, City of San Fernando, La Union. The LCS is aimed to strengthen the faith and morals of the employees to help them transform into a person with positive attitude and outlook in performing their respective work.
Three Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the province were assessed by a multi-agency team led by DOST during the Energy Audit conducted last June 8-10, 2016.
Energy Audit is one of the Technical Assistance and Consultancy Services (TACS) offered by DOST to assist MSMEs and other business establishments improve their energy efficiency resulting to higher productivity.
The Energy Audit consultancy service was conducted at Escat Dressing Plant in Bucao, San Gabriel, Modulhaus Inc. in San Marcos, Agoo, and Ordinario’s Furniture Shop in Sinapangan, Balaoan.
The team of experts assessed the facilities and examined the current energy utilization of each firm then identified strategies and alternatives to improve their energy efficiency and performance. A technical report containing a benchmark, or reference point for managing energy use across the organization as well as feasible recommendations with cost benefit analysis and an action plan to reduce energy consumption was provided and presented to the owners at the end of the activity.
Engr. Bernadine P. Suniega of DOST La Union Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) led the audit. Other experts include Engr. Thelma T. Obillo, Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department of the College of Engineering (COE) of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC), Engr. Harrison R. Flores also from DMMMSU-COE ME Department, Engr. Pablo D. Gurtiza from DMMMSU-COE Electrical Engineering Department and Engr. Sulamita F. Catalan of DOST-PSTC La Union.
