DOST conducts Food Safety Assessment in La Union

A multi-agency team led by the Department of Science and Technology - La Union Provincial Scence and Technology Center conducted Food Safety Assessment on three food establishments in the province last December 7, 2015.
Engr. Ismael Gurtiza, Provincial Science and Technology Director was joined by Ms. Purisima F. Lozano, Regulation Officer III of the Food and Drug Admininstration (FDA) Region 1, Prof. Anabella G. Valdez, Chairman of the Food Technlogy Department of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), Ms. Maybelyn P. Badao of the Department of Agriculture (DA) – National Organic Agriculture Program and Ms. Sulamita F. Catalan, Focal Person of Food Safety from DOST-La Union.
DOST 1 conducts the first Furniture Weaving Training

The La Union Science and Technology Center (PSTC-LU) conducted a three-day training on Furniture Weaving cum Mixed Media Presentation on December 2-4, 2015 to thirteen (13) participants from ten (10) wood manufacturing enterprises at the PSTC-LU, Government Center, City of San Fernando, La Union. The objectives of the said training was presented by Engr. Anielyn A. Pai which are: to update the participating enterprises of the furniture designs; and to train them on furniture weaving using standard furniture substrates in combination with synthetic fiber (rattan).

DOST-PTRI: To Weave a Greater Future of an Aged Garment

Dated 15 September 2015, Tuesday, the future of loom weaving in Sarrat was started, as they pounded the ground for the foundation for the ground breaking ceremony of the building for the Innovation Center for Loomweaving (Binakol) in San Jose, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.
Joined by the DOST Region 1 headed by Dr. Armando Q. Ganal and the Provincial Director of Ilocos Norte, Mr. Jonathan M. Viernes, the ground breaking was graced by Sarrat Municipal Mayor Edito Alberto G. Balintona, the Provincial Director of DAR Engr. Vic Ines, DOST-PTRI, represented by Mr. Anghel Uldo, San Jose MPC President, Ms Ermelyn A. Tariga, and representatives from DTI, DA and DAR.

DOST Launches Food Innovation Center in Ilocos Norte

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office I, launched the Food Innovation Center (FIC) last September 2, 2015 at the Science and Technology Park, Mariano Marcos State University, Batac City, Ilocos Norte. The launching was conducted as part of the celebration of the North Luzon Cluster Science and Technology Fair, which was conducted at the Vigan Convention Center, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo was the guest of honor and speaker.
